This is always a must-do when we go to Disney World. The interesting stuff might be the North African stuff like Chermoula shrimp, cous-cous salads or Harira soup, but I didn't see any of that.So okay, it tries to pass some American standards off as exotic African cuisine, but is it good? But I was hoping for unique, and it just wasn't. It's a buffet style restaurant. The seafood stew has been overlooked before, but I enjoyed it this time. i stayed at the AKL for my recent trip but even if i was staying at a different hotel i would go all the way here to eat. Speaking of drinks, the juice they have there is really tasty. The last visit, I enjoyed a South African Syrah.I would normally give Boma 5 stars, but the meat on our last trip was a little lacking and I do remember the meats being better in the past. Pap is cornmeal mush, either thick like packaged polenta, or smooth like grits. )And while The Mara is the resortâs counter service location, Jiko is a signature restaurant, and Sanaa features a table service fusion of flavors, Boma serves as the resortâs buffet offering. It serves breakfast and dinner, and while dinner is fantastic my favorite meal is breakfast. My mom can tend to be like that, so I like to take her to places like Boma for that very reason. The buffet also offers different kinds of breads and salads, delicious soups, a variety of vegetables, and traditional dishes like bobotie, chakalaka, fufu and sambal. I usually avoid the salads, but they were quite good on my last visit. Breakfast - Can't miss the Simba and Mickey mini waffles. It didn't look like Nutella, more like caramel. We thought about keeping our luggage by our table, but there would not have been enough room to keep them out of the walkway. Talk about service! The food and service, Maureen, was wonderful, different, and had plenty for picky eaters. this might just be my favorite restaurant on Disney property. From fried plantains to turkey bobotie at breakfast, to cold corn soup and roasted chicken with tamarind BBQ sauce at dinner, the selection is vast and flavorful. So good. It is usually served with pap or samp & beans and is most commonly found in black communities across the country. I forgot was it was called, but you'll see it. Add the Chakalaka seasoning (curry, paprika, and ginger), tomatoes, carrots, sugar, and water. There are also a variety of soups, stew, sides and salads, as well. Chakalaka can be served hot or cold, over mealie pap, with slices of bread, or as a condiment for grilled meats. I tried it just because it was so much fun to say, but found I really enjoyed the contrasting flavors and textures. We had the breakfast buffet there this morning and it was my favorite meal of our trip! We've been here multiple times and have had several different servers. I also had a red curry sauce that was excellent, I think it was the mater paneer or perhaps the chakalaka. As it is a buffet, you might as well take advantage of it, and try different and unique dishes you might not normally order as entree or what have you. I’ve tried a little on both and personally prefer either of those by themselves, but those that enjoy tomato will want to give it a try. I visited Boma for supper during my 2020 Winter vacation with the missus while at WDW, we were on the Disney Standard Dining plan (that's 2 snacks, 1 Quick Service and a Table Service meal per day) and we did not stay at the Animal Kingdom lodge so it's a bit of a trek for us. We usually eat here for breakfast, but the dinner buffet continues to be delicious as well, and full of interesting and exotic choices. Here's an alternate view.
