Congratulations on bringing home your brand-new baby! This is a wonderful time in first time parents lives, but now comes the real work. If you just brought home your baby, the first thing you will notice is that you do not have any nurses to help. You are officially on your own and it is time to adjust with a new baby in the house.
Pets
If you have pets, they are going to be interested in the new addition. An easy way to get your animals acclimated to a new baby in the house is by leaving your baby in a car seat. You want to allow your animals to sniff your newborn, but be careful that your pets do not smother your baby. If anything, allow your animals to sit around the new baby. The adjustment will take a few weeks, but before too long – you can expect to have some new babysitters. Animals love to protect their home, so you can expect to have your animals on guard.
Schedule
There is never a schedule when you have a newborn. The first few weeks are going to be rough, because everything is so new. Both parents are going to be exhausted, because going on baby watch duty can be grueling. If your baby is colicky, that is going to be rough, but at any point that you feel your baby may need to see a doctor – it is better to be safe than sorry. Nap time is going to be a blessing for both you and your partner. You want to find an area that is well ventilated and a good temperature. The days of sleeping in a room that is colder are over, because you want your baby to be warm. You also want a quiet area, because you were going to learn quickly that a loud noise might wake up your newborn and then you need to repeat your nap time ritual again. The main thing you want to do is work on getting your schedule to where you are able to get some rest and have a bit of downtime.
Shopping
Right after a baby is born – there are going to be so many different things that you might need. You obviously can’t forget to shop, but you can do a few things that will help if you are running out of time. Walmart.com and Amazon.com are fantastic about placing orders for diapers and other items that you may need for your baby. You can always put these items on an automatic reorder, because then you do not even need to worry about whether or not you have diapers. This is one less thing for you to do and it also makes it so that you do not need to frequently go to the store. Babies go through a great deal of diapers.
Be sure to take lots of pictures of your new baby. There are lots of different ideas that can be found on the Internet for ways to do a photo shoot, but also preserve all of the wonderful memories of having a brand-new baby.
