Stranger Danger

This might sound like something you would say to your children, but you also need to think about protecting your newborn baby if you like to attend social events and going to public places. Many parents do not realize that there are so many predators looking for opportunities to kidnap children. It is something that needs to be addressed, but it also is a huge wake-up call for parents. Especially parents that have a new baby for the first time need to be aware of their surroundings.

The news always has a story about a new baby being kidnapped, because the parent was not paying attention to the baby or simply glanced away for a second. There are many ways for you to protect yourself and your new baby.

Tips For Protection

One of the most important things you can do to ensure your safety is always know about the current sex offender list in your local area. This may seem like it is to extreme, but you would rather know if you have a registered sex offender living on your block than not. You want to know who is on the list and have a general idea of where they reside. These are the areas that you want to avoid.

The next thing to do is if you like to go for walks or if you like to go to the park – do a stroll or two without your child. You want to get to know the neighborhood and see if there are regulars that may frequent corners of the street or if there are certain people that are always at the park. You want to observe their behavior and see if anything seems out of place. The reason you want to do this is because when you do decide to take a walk with your baby in a stroller, you will already have an idea of the local area. You never want to go explore in areas that you are not familiar with.

If you decide to go to a park where other parents are sitting around chatting, but they do not really appear to be keeping their eyes 100% on the children playing on the playground – you need to be the vigilant one and watch. The park seems like it can be a safe place, but it actually can be a dangerous prey zone for those individuals that are looking to kidnap a child. The more eyes watching the children the better.  A safe environment can be the most detrimental and criminals know this.

If you see a vehicle that is out of place or if you notice a vehicle that is occupied with individuals sitting watching the children play – don’t be afraid to call your local law enforcement. It does not need to be an emergency call, but it can be a call to the main office to let a dispatcher know that a deputy should probably head in your direction. It is better to be safe than sorry
